Brief Biography:
John Adams‘ origins are initially unknown but are revealed in Volume 2. He is a manipulative and vengeful adversary for Alice, although he simultaneously longs for and works towards having her by his side again. He also hunts all those connected with the „Potential“: people who have the possibility of being awakened as stars. He uses their properties to create a remedy for his own negative aura. He is especially ruthless towards people close to Alice – particularly men – because it is primarily his jealousy that drives his actions.

SECOND BORN
Although once chosen by Levi Rupe to return from the inter-beyond to the living world, the former student of Rupe turns against his mentor when he learns that Rupe has destined him and his awakened stars to sacrifice themselves for their master through a ritual. With the intended ritual, Rupe plans to shed his frail old man’s shell and, with newfound power, dominate the realm of the living. In the meantime, John serves him as an energy source to stop Rupe’s mortal decay. He needs the blood of the brother-slayer for this, as the bloodline of John’s family is bound to Rupe’s life energy due to the ominous events of ancient times. When he finally learns of his master’s plan to sacrifice him later, he flees from Rupe and Winter.
John comes to the aid of his brother Paul when he is pressured by Rosa Winter and Levi Rupe to join the Dark Stars. He helps Paul and the teacher Leonie escape, leading to the first confrontation between the two brothers since the past trauma – the murder of Abel (Paul), committed by Cain (John). John signals that he wishes for peace between them. It is John who informs Paul that Rupe is trying to pit them against each other and build a group of terror and destruction. John, who was once part of this group along with Winter, has turned away from his former mentor and is looking for a way to get rid of him. He advises Paul to go into hiding and stay away from Rupe.
Winter finds John and proposes a deal: John delivers Paul to them, and in return, they will leave him alone in the future. It becomes clear that the two have a past, and Winter is interested in rekindling it. But John sends her away, upon which Winter leaves him with the words that Paul is the more valuable brother.
When Paul later seeks him out, the two decide to team up against Rupe and Winter.
THE ORIGIN OF ETERNITY, VOL. 1
John, who has increasingly devoted himself to the founding of his Dark Stars after the rift with his brother, meets Alice Watson in 1949. He knows she has inherited the star potential of her father, Johann von Schellen. Determined to reclaim this position through Alice’s death, he seeks out the young painter and plans to murder her. He changes his mind when they first meet, deciding instead to awaken her as his final eighth star—too fascinated by this encounter and the aura of the unsuspecting descendant. He succeeds in convincing her of his intention to heal her from her physical suffering, and soon after, John and Alice marry. Yet, the 1st Dark Star remains committed to his plans: he aims to use his powers for the ultimate revenge on humanity, which once rejected him. Together with the other Dark Stars, he causes havoc while keeping his wife largely out of the events, allowing her to further her success as a painter. However, they break up when she realizes the dark paths her husband and his friends are treading. She leaves John, which leaves him hurt and angry.
Later, he intensifies his actions and becomes entangled in countless international conflicts as a feared warmonger. In 1969, he reunites with Alice, who is hunting him to put an end to his deeds. During this encounter, he also meets Stanley Houseman, Alice Watson’s later partner. Again, there is no resolution between him and Alice, forcing John to leave the country.
He establishes a new cult in the South American jungle and hides there for many years until he disbands the cult in the late ’90s, with fatal consequences. Alice, who never left his mind, remains his top goal: by capturing Houseman, he hopes to force her to rejoin him. The plan fails, and John is arrested by the police for multiple murders.
The years of John Adams’s reign as a feared cult leader are numbered: for nearly 20 years, the dangerously malicious 1st Dark Star has been on death row, awaiting the execution of his death sentence. Confined in solitary confinement, he merely waits for the day he will be released—for he is immune to mortal instruments of execution. With the support of his followers, his escape plan is long in the making, and he eagerly anticipates his freedom as well as a reunion with Alice. After the execution, he indeed escapes and is brought to safety by one of his disciples.
John has knowledge of Serendipity and captures several followers. Under torture, he forces them to provide information about Alice and her whereabouts. He also learns of the intention to capture star candidates and hide them from him. Armed with this information, he now plans his next steps.
