Second Born (93 years before „Origin of Eternity“)

With his identity as Paul Wedekind, Cy leads a carefree and untroubled life, ever since the industrialist Hugo Wedekind recognized him as his nephew and business successor. In Hugo, Cy has found a kind-hearted mentor who not only knows his true origin but also seems to be tasked with preparing Cy for his role as the leader of the Bright Stars, a responsibility Cy has long resisted. It is only with the arrival of Levi Rupe that he is forced to face his destiny. Unexpected help comes from John, his brother—and former murderer.

The teacher Leonie Dahlen crosses his path, and he falls in love with her. When she turns away from him without explanation, he accepts her decision and tries to distract himself with the comforts his social status offers, but he cannot forget her. It is only later that he learns she was forced to break off contact with him to keep her position as a private tutor for a wealthy banker, who did not approve of their relationship. Nonetheless, it is Leonie who provides him with shelter after the enigmatic Levi Rupe orders an attack on Cy. They find refuge with Leonie’s brother, who works as a traveling actor and, unlike his sister, leads a life free of strict conventions. Leonie and Cy grow close again. She also warns Cy about John, whom she does not trust. Despite this, she supports Cy when he decides to give his brother a second chance. Determined to set things right, Cy teams up with John to fight against Levi Rupe and Rosa Winter. During this time, he discovers his own abilities, which are in stark contrast to those of his brother. He also seems to neutralize the negative influences that make a normal life impossible for John as Cain’s curse.

Believing that if he helps the outcast return to the right path, they can both live in peaceful coexistence, Cy agrees with John to eliminate Winter and Rupe from this world. In the final confrontation, they manage to overpower Rosa Winter and Levi Rupe and banish them back to the afterlife. However, John betrays Cy when he gets the chance to relinquish his powers and live on as a mortal. With Leonie now at the center of danger, Cy can no longer avoid a fight with his brother. When John captures the unconscious Leonie, he offers his hated brother one last deal: Leonie can live if Cy swears never to see her again. Cy agrees to the deal and has to watch as John escapes. To protect Leonie’s life, he keeps his word and leaves the love of his life without a final word to her.

He is now ready to take on his mission—the destruction of the Dark Stars, who will henceforth be found and led by John Adams. He dedicates himself wholly to this fight and swears to honor Leonie’s memory.

Origin of Eternity

Cy appears in this volume—nameless—on the photograph that Alice Watson receives from Lea Brannigan. However, his presence during the Nigeria incident becomes apparent later, as it is he who demands the loyalty oath of the Bright Stars from Stanley Houseman to save him from death.

Origin of Eternity II – Metamorphose

Cy directly participates in the events only at the end, when he attends the meeting with Helen Albury, who tries to force him into a deal with her son, William Albury. He witnesses her attempt to kill the still unawakened star with a shot from her pistol.

Origin of Eternity – III – Stigma

Cy introduces himself to the newly awakened last star, William Albury, as the leader of the Bright Stars and reveals his true identity. He is Abel, the brother of John Adams, who once killed him out of envy and jealousy, and thus received the Mark of Cain. Cy strives to gain Will’s trust, but he suspects early on that Will’s affection for Alice Watson will hinder their collaboration. Despite this, he relies on Will since his own resources are depleted, and only one of his remaining three companions can metamorphose into the Guiding Star – the only force capable of stopping John Adams. However, he hides one thing from Will: Stanley Houseman has been living in the sanatorium run by Cy for years, after Cy found him severely injured and was able to cure him through a specially designed therapy. When Will discovers this secret, he flees back to Seaport, which deeply worries Cy as he sees Will as the only way to defeat his brother.

Upon Will’s return, Cy finally meets Alice. Although he has sympathies for her, he knows she stands in the way between him and Will. Hoping to shift Alice’s focus from Will to Stan, he allows his brother’s ex-wife and Stan to stay in a secluded area on the sanatorium grounds, on the condition that Alice distances herself from Will.

Later, Cy realizes he needs Alice’s help to defeat John Adams. He sees in her the one who can awaken the necessary power. Together, they succeed in finally stopping Adams.

Cy continues his work as a psychologist at the sanatorium and, like all the remaining stars, is now mortal and free from any responsibility.

Tabula Rasa I (10 years after „Origin of Eternity“)

Cy, now the father of an eight-year-old daughter named Savannah, leads a quiet life in the sanatorium he founded, which he continues to run with Luise. He and Luise have chosen to co-parent, a rational decision – neither is interested in a partnership.

In recent years, he has also established a deep friendship with his former adversary Alice. When she tragically loses her partner Will, Cy becomes a crucial support for her, helping her through her grief.

Furthermore, he remains a silent supporter of the school founded by Leonie Dahlen in Berlin. Through this, he meets the headmistress Yolanda and eventually accepts an invitation to the school’s anniversary celebration, which he attends with Alice as his companion, posing as a descendant of Paul Wedekind. His interest in Yolanda forces him to reconsider his self-imposed vow of celibacy. Encouraged by Alice to follow his feelings, he realizes that it is actually Alice for whom he now feels more than friendship. On the same evening, he confesses this to her, and when she reciprocates his feelings, they spend the night together. Transitioning into this new phase of life is not easy for Cy, and he leaves the sleeping Alice to wander alone through the night. Shortly thereafter, he is kidnapped.
